Medicine and Palliative Care

Presentation

The specialist in Palliative Care Medicine must have acquired theoretical, scientific and professional knowledge, both within and outside the hospital, in the field of assistance to patients in the advanced stages of illness with an uncertain or particularly fatal outcome. The training course integrates knowledge on the natural history of chronic degenerative diseases, both oncological and non-oncological, and on the management of the most widespread chronic pathologies. The fundamental objective of the palliative approach is the improvement of the patient's quality of life. This includes the ability to intervene and interact with the communication plan, the socio-family, spiritual, and psychological aspects. He must also develop health management knowledge and skills in order to optimize resources according to the principles and standards of quality, effectiveness, efficiency and acceptability of interventions.
